Why would Outlook not send emails? How to fix it?
Many users face an error with Microsoft Outlook app or the Outlook website not sending emails to their intended destinations. While the Internet connection is the most obvious culprit, there are other reasons for this error to occur, too. They include:
The solutions listed below reveal how to fix this error. Check them out, and follow the instructions carefully.
To prevent spam and creating false email addresses, every email address created needs to be verified. You wouldn't be able to send emails if your email account is not verified.
Ensure that your account has been verified, by going to the Settings section of Outlook, or by clicking on a verify button of a dialogue box that will appear on your screen.
If you try to send an email from your Outlook email account, and you receive the "The message cannot be sent right now" error, close and reopen the web browser. After you open the web browser again, try sending the email.
To prevent spam, email providers set a limit of emails a user can send daily. You wouldn't be able to send an email if you have exceeded the daily limit for sending emails ranging around 300 emails per day, to up to 100 recipients, provided that you use the Personal Outlook plan. If you have sent many emails, it is possible that this is the case.
To check this, and fix the issue, you would need to wait for 24 hours to pass from the current point when you saw this error message.
It is possible that the current firewall and antivirus settings on your computer block Outlook from sending emails. As a test, try disabling the firewall and antivirus settings, and send an email afterwards. If you successfully sent the email, access the firewall and the antivirus and see how they are configured.
To disable the Windows Firewall:
To enable the Windows Firewall:
In order for an email exchange to take place, both the sender and the recipient should have an email. Maybe the contact you try to send an email to doesn't have an email address associated with it (maybe you have deleted the email address by mistake).
Check the contact's details, and make sure it has an email address associated with it. Then, try sending the email.
Make sure that you always have the latest version of your web browser installed, because the latest version contains bug fixes to many issues, with one of them possibly being the one that prevents you from sending emails via Outlook. Check if there is an update available for your browser and update to it.
If you are not sure how to update your web browser, the how to update the web browser guide should be all you need.
The purpose of the cache and cookies is to make our browsing experience faster, i.e. not to open a website all over again, if we visit it frequently. Thanks to them, we have an opportunity to access websites without logging in every time we open them. It's possible that the reason for this error in Outlook are corrupt cookies and cache files, which have accumulated in your web browser.
As a way to fix this error code, you need to clear the cache files, the cookies and unnecessary data. Once cleared, they will be replaced with "fresh" cookies and data, the next time you open the website.
To learn how to clear the browser's cache (and cookies), check the how to clear the cache guide and how to delete browser cookies guide.
Maybe the issue you experience with Outlook can be easily solved by one of the Outlook customer support members. Feel free to contact them online via Outlook.com and ask for guidance.
Another reason behind this issue may be an email alias you have been using. An alias is an additional email address associated with your Outlook account through which you can send emails (e.g. instead of you buying an ice-cream for your friend, you give money to your sister and ask her to buy the ice-cream and give it to your friend).
In this case, what you need to do to fix the issue is to disable the alias and send emails directly from your email.
For detailed instructions on how to add or remove an alias, feel free to check the Outlook guide.
It is possible, although highly unlikely, that Outlook doesn't work well with the web browser you are using. What you can try in this case is using a different web browser. If Outlook works fine in another web browser, then you may try fixing the web browser Outlook didn't work well with.
The purpose of browser extensions is to make our browsing experience easier, by offering us a wide range of tools. There are many extensions out there, both well-developed and poorly developed. Sometimes, the reason behind the error "The message cannot be sent right now error" in Outlook can be a bad (sometimes malicious) browser toolbar or extension. In this case, removing the browser toolbar/extension can solve this problem.
As the process of removing extensions varies from one web browser to another, feel free to check out the how to remove browser extensions guide, which will teach you how to remove browser extensions from the web browser you use.
If you don’t receive the email in the next 2 minutes please check your junk folder, and add [email protected] to your safe sender list.
