Follow these steps − Windows
Go to the Control Panel (Windows 7 on the left side/ Windows 8(.1) or 10) on the right side
Click (Network and Internet) -> Network and Sharing Center
Click Change adapter settings
Select the connection for which you want to check the DNS settings
If your computer is connected to the internet via ethernet (cable): right-click Local Area Connection (Ethernet) -> Properties
If your computer is connected to the internet via Wi-Fi: right-click Wireless Network Connection -> Properties
Under the Networking tab and This connection uses the following items, select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) or Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6) and then click Properties
Click Advanced and select the DNS tab. If there are any DNS server IP addresses listed there, write them down and remove them by selecting one by one and clicking Remove (Don't alter anything else in the window) and click OK to close it
Select Use the following DNS server addresses. If there are any IP addresses listed in the Preferred DNS server or Alternate DNS server, write them down and delete them as well.
Replace the addresses (if any) with the IP addresses of the Google DNS servers (which are one of the most reliable):
For IPv4: Preferred DNS server - 220.127.116.11 and Alternative DNS server - 18.104.22.168
For IPv6: Preferred DNS server - 2001:4860:4860::8888 and Alternative DNS server - 2001:4860:4860::8844
Close both the windows by clicking OK and restart the connection you selected in step 4 (disconnect and reconnect to it)
Test if the connection is working properly (click here to learn how to test the connection properly)
Repeat the same procedure for other network connections you want to modify.
Go to Settings -> Wi-Fi -> Tap and hold the network you are currently connected to -> Tap on Modify network
Tap on Advanced options -> Scroll down and tap the vertical arrow next to DHCP -> Tap on Static
Scroll down to find the DNS 1 and DNS 2 fields -> Enter the DNS addresses you want to use in the DNS 1 and DNS 2 fields (the Google's Public DNS is recommended by many users: 22.214.171.124/126.96.36.199) -> Tap on Save to save the changes
Reconnect to the Wi-Fi network so that the changes take effect
Go to Settings (from the applications list) -> Wi-Fi
Tap and hold the Wi-Fi connection you are currently connected to -> Tap edit
Make sure that Configure network settings manually is enabled (ON) -> Enter the DNS addresses you want to use (Google's Public DNS addresses are recommended and used by many users 188.8.131.52/184.108.40.206 ) -> Tap on Done
Note: Some Windows phone users are unable to modify the DNS settings, which is due to a bug in the operating system.
