The solutions listed above should help you fix this issue, provided that you follow them carefully.
If you get the error 3194, try editing the computer's "hosts" file, by adding a new entry in it:
a. On Windows: C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
b. On Mac: /ect/hosts
Enter 74.208.105.171 gs.apple.com at the very end of file and save the changes;
Connect your device to the computer and open iTunes;
Note: You will be asked whether you want to restore your device, too, but bear in mind that if you decide to restore it, you will lose all the data (photos, music, videos and other documents).
If the method above didn't work, add the following lines to the hosts file:
#74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com
#127.0.0.1 gs.apple.com
#74.208.105.171 gs.apple.com
Here's how to find the hosts file, if you use Windows OS:
There is an extremely small possibility that an outdated antivirus software is the reason for the 3194 error message. To fix this, check if an update for your anti-virus software is available , and if it is, apply it.
If you tried everytning else to fix the issue, but nothing worked, take your device to a repair shop and they should be able to resolve the problem.
Note: Take your device to an authorised repair shop only, to ensure that you will receive the best service.
Another way to fix the 3194 error code is to remotely reset the device. To do that, follow the steps below:
Maybe you get the error code 3194 because the iTunes version installed in your computer is outdated. In this case, all you need to do is to update it, either via iTunes itself or by downloading it from Apple's website.
To check if your iTunes version is up-to-date (and update it, if it's not), open iTunes, click on Help and select Check for Updates.
Maybe your Internet connection is the reason behind the 3194 error message. When you want to update/upgrade your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch, you will need a stable and reliable Internet connection to download the updates and apply them.
To troubleshoot and fix problems related to Internet connectivity, check out the no Internet connection or slow Internet connection guides.
It is possible that the anti-virus software (and firewall) are the reason why you get the error code 3194. Disable the anti-virus software temporarily, but don't forget to enable it again, after the updating process is complete.
If you get the error code 3194 when restoring or downgrading your device, try bypassing the router as it may be the one which prevents iTunes from accessing the update server. All you need to do is to unplug the Ethernet cable from the router and plug it directly in your computer.
Note: If your connection is a Broadband (PPPoE) one, i.e. if you need to type a username and password to be able to browse the net, you need to create a new Internet connection in your computer. Check out the following articles, if you are not sure how to create a new one:
- On Windows
- On Mac OS
Maybe restarting the computer will fix this issue. Try restarting it first and then try restoring or downgrading your device.
If you get the error 3194 on iPhone, iPad or iPod touch, restart the router and try updating or restoring your iPhone.
If you get this error message and you are not sure how to address it, consider contacting Apple support and they will help you diagnose and fix the issue.
You can contact them online, on getsupport.apple.
If none of the other solutions worked and the error 3194 persists, try to restore or update your device on another computer, with a different Internet connection.
