Barking (Attention seeking/boredom barking)

Barking is a dog's way of communicating and often we know its cause, but sometimes it's difficult to determine. So, in order to get your dog to stop barking, you first need to determine the type of barking and its meaning.

  • Alarm/territorial barking - when your dog barks at anyone who is approaching your home, external sounds or at passersby/other animals on the street.
  • Attention seeking/boredom barking - when your dog barks in order to get more food or to play with you.
  • Separation anxiety barking - when your dog barks as soon as you leave your home, especially if it's left alone, usually accompanied with urinating inside and destruction of furniture and household objects.
  • Barking when left alone / Isolation barking - separation anxiety barking and isolation barking are very similar, the difference being that isolation barking occurs because your dog is left alone for long periods of time during the day and is in need of socialization.
  • Confinement/restrained barking - when your dog barks because he's kept in a cage or on a chain(the solution for this one is simple) .
  • Illness/injury barking - when your dog barks in order to "tell" you that something is wrong with him.
