Heat stroke happens due to too much exposure to the sun or other heat source. The body loses its function to regulate its own temperature, so it excedes 40.6 degrees Celsius (105.1 degrees Fahrenheit), and it is very important to seek medical attention immediately, since, if not treated, heat stroke could be fatal.
Note: As this is a health-related problem, we suggest that you consult with your doctor first.
Heat stroke is a condition caused by your body overheating, usually as a result of prolonged exposure to or physical exertion in high temperatures. Your body temperature rises to 104 F (40 C) or higher. Heat stroke requires emergency treatment. The usual causes of heat stroke are:
1) Exposure to a hot environment
2) Strenuous activity
3) Wearing excess clothing
4) Drinking alcohol
5) Being dehydrated
If you suspect you are having a heat stroke, or you think somebody else has it, immediately call an ambulance, since any sort of a delay can prove to be fatal.
In the meantime, try any of the temporary solutions we have listed on our site.
Call the ambulance immediately! While they are on their way, fan air over the patient while wetting their skin with water from a sponge or garden hose.
If you suspect somebody is having a heat stroke, immediately call an ambulance. While waiting for them to arrive, move the person in question to a cooler place, or an air conditioned room.
Immediately call the ambulance, and while they are on their way, apply ice packs to the patient's armpits, groin, neck, and back.
These areas are rich with blood vessels that are close to the skin, cooling them may reduce body temperature.
Immediately call the ambulance, but while they are on their way, soak the patient in a tub of cool water, or an ice bath. Shower can also work.
